Kawhi Leonard receives treatment for knee swelling, out at least 1 more week for Raptors

Kawhi Leonard is on the mend for the Toronto Raptors, but still some distance from returning to the court.

The Raptors announced Tuesday that Leonard has “successfully completed treatment to address left knee swelling” and has begun his return to play process in Toronto. The team will provide another update on his progress in a week.

The exact nature of the treatment is unknown.

Leonard has played only two games this season due to a knee injury, with his timetable set at three to four weeks in late October. The 35-year-old has a considerable history of knee injuries in his career, though primarily in his right knee.

In his absence, the Raptors have gone 2-3, most recently beating his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers, in a 125-118 comeback win on Monday. Next up is a road date with the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, followed by an NBA Cup game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.

This season is Leonard’s first back since a championship-winning one year stint with the Raptors 2018-19. The seven-time All-Star joined the Raptors via a trade that sent Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick and five draft picks to the Clippers, who were pummeled with unprecedented NBA sanctions over their handling of Leonard.
