Arizona men’s basketball has its first transfer portal pickup for the 2026-27 season.
Former Washington point guard JJ Mandaquit announced Monday he is transferring to Arizona with three remaining years of eligibility. Mandaquit, a rising sophomore, averaged 5.2 points, 3.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 19.7 minutes per game for the Huskies last season.

The 6-foot-1 Mandaquit is a former top-100 recruit who played for Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd with Team USA Basketball. The Hawaii native competed for Lloyd’s gold-medal winning squad at the 2025 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup. He averaged 6.1 points, 5.4 assists and 2 rebounds.
“Mandaquit is a throwback true point guard who excels with his ability to run a team,” 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein wrote ahead of Mandaquit’s freshman season at Washington. “He isn’t going to wow anyone with dynamic explosiveness or individual offense, but makes his mark with his reliability, acumen for the game, and winning intangibles.”
At Washington, Mandaquit played 22 games before suffering a season-ending foot injury. He scored a career-high 15 points in UW’s home loss to Michigan on Jan. 14. Mandaquit scored double figures in four total games.
Mandaquit will likely serve in a backup point guard role next season, after Arizona lacked a legitimate backup floor general this year.
