Arkansas basketball’s Darius Acuff Jr. doubtful to play vs Missouri | Report

Arkansas basketball point guard Darius Acuff Jr. is doubtful for this weekend’s game against Missouri, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. The initial SEC Availability Report will be released later tonight.

The No. 20 Razorbacks (22-8, 12-5 SEC) face the Tigers (20-10, 9-7) with little to play for on Saturday, March 7. John Calipari’s team has already clinched a double-bye at next week’s SEC Tournament. The Razorbacks will either be the No. 2 seed or the No. 3 seed at the league’s postseason event.

Acuff has been battling an ongoing ankle injury. He’s worn a boot and been limited in practices throughout the month of February. Calipari admitted that Acuff participated more heavily in practice during the buildup to a 20-point victory over Texas on Wednesday, March 4.

“As I’m walking to go out (to practice), Darius is in the training room, and he said, ‘coach, I got to start practicing’. Now, I didn’t keep him in the whole practice, but he wasn’t in a boot. He was out there, and he went. But he was, you could tell that’s the healthiest he’s been in a while,” Calipari said after the win against the Longhorns.

Acuff is averaging 22.2 points and 6.4 assists during a freshman season that seems destined to earn him the SEC Player of the Year Award. He is shooting 49.3% from the field and 43.7% on 3-pointers.

Arkansas will open play in the SEC Tournament on Friday, March 13. Acuff will have more than a week of rest in between games as the Hogs look to get him healthy for March Madness.
