Duke Sets New Mark in Win Over Coastal Carolina

The Duke Blue Devils are now 2-0 on the 2026-27 college basketball season, earning their second blowout win this week. After taking down Army on Monday, the Blue Devils returned to the court and took care of business on Thursday.

Duke controlled the entire game, taking down Coastal Carolina 113-52, leaving no doubt in Cameron Indoor Stadium. And that 61-point win is a new record under Jon Scheyer, marking the largest margin of victory for the head coach in his Duke career.

The Blue Devils were led by junior center Patrick Ngongba II who had a big game, scoring 28 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the win. Ngongba powered the Blue Devils to a strong start to open the game, jumping out to a 16-0 lead early.

From there, Duke never looked back and didn’t trail in the game as they kept the pressure on Coastal Carolina. Ngongba’s effort in the first half included 18 points and a dominant effort on the defensive end.

That effort also included 9 blocks in the game for Duke, as their size in the post ended up being one of the biggest differences in the game.

As Duke took a 54-18 lead, they established their dominance in that first half and then carried it into the second half. It was much more of the same for Duke who had five players score in double-figures including four starters.

The lone non-starter to hit double figures was guard Caleb Foster who had 15 points off the bench. His 15 tied John Blackwell for second-most points in the game.

While freshman Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje didn’t hit double figures as a starter, he finished with nine points, five rebounds and three blocks.

As a team, Duke out-rebounded Coastal Carolina 53-27 as their size was just too much in terms of talent in the paint. Duke had 39 defensive rebounds in the game, limiting Coastal Carolina on the second chance opportunities. The Blue Devils also shot 50 percent from the three-point line, going 11 of 22 from the perimeter.
