Tennessee defeats Wofford 90-59 to kick off 2026-27 season

It took a while to get going, but the Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team picked up their first win of the 2026-27 season, defeating the Wofford Terriers 90-59 on Tuesday evening at Thompson-Boling Arena.

DeWayne Brown II and Terence Hill, Jr. both led Tennessee with 17 points each. Brown had a very impressive double-double with 17 rebounds. Tyler Lundblade led all shooters with four three pointers on 12 points.

It was an ugly first half for the Vols, as the Terriers hung around for the entire period. Tyler Lundblade had an electric start to the game, knocking down two quick threes as the Vols opened up an early 12-6 lead, finishing with three triples for the half. But the iron was unkind for much of the half, and Wofford continued to creep back to tie or take a slim lead. Wofford tied the game for the last time at 27 on a kickout three near the corner. Troy Henderson knocked down a three from the wing to give Tennessee a 32-27 lead, and the Vols would take a 34-31 lead into the locker room.

Tennessee put their foot down quickly in the second half. Wofford’s Cam Smith hit a three quickly to draw to within 36-34. Tennessee would hit the afterburners and blow the Terriers off the floor at that point, going on a 26-4 lead to take a commanding 62-38 lead with a little over 10 minutes remaining. Seven different Vols put the ball through the hoop over that span, and this one was very much over.

Tennessee shot 52.3% from the field (34-65) and 7-23 from beyond the arc. They were a strong 15-16 from the line and owned the rebounding edge 42-34, dominating points in the paint 52-24.

Up next for Tennessee is Radford on Monday Nov. 9 at 7:00 pm ET in Knoxville.
