The Sacramento Kings are off to a 0-5 start to the season, with a bottom-five offense and defense, and the second-worst net rating in the league (-15.7).
Does that mean coach Doug Christie is in trouble? Is his seat starting to get warm? No. Not even a little, according to reporting from Sam Amick at The Athletic.

Per the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because these matters aren’t typically discussed publicly, there is an internal belief that Christie deserves a fair chance to be evaluated with a team that is much healthier than this current Kings lot.
On one hand, injuries certainly have hit the Kings. Maybe the most significant one, flying a little under the radar, is Keegan Murray being out with an ankle issue (the one he had operated on last May). There is also en Simmons (out for the season with a torn right Achilles, backup center Maxime Raynaud (knee) and Dylan Cardwell (calf).
On the other hand, Christie has now coached 138 Kings games across three seasons, at this point you know what you have in your coach. The other reality is that Christie reportedly has been a favorite of owner Vivek Ranadive and members of his family, who have influential positions in the organization.
The Kings were never going to win a lot of games this season with this roster, the question is whether Christie can develop young players like Darius Acuff Jr., who is putting up numbers, including 34 in a loss Thursday. He’s just not been efficient doing it, shooting 37.4% on the season.
The other question: Is Christie building a culture that can maximize this team when they do add more talent and improve the roster? Has that happened yet?
Christie is going to get plenty of time to figure that out.
