JJ Redick was pleased with the bench’s performance in win over Clippers

Playing the second night of a back-to-back following a narrow loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, the Luka Dončić-less Los Angeles Lakers were going to need some unsung heroes to help them topple the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night. That became even more apparent as Austin Reaves struggled through his worst outing of the season, going 6-of-16 from the floor, scoring 16 points and committing eight turnovers — the first time in five games he’d shot worse than 54.5% or tallied fewer than 23 points.

They were great. They helped us win.

In particular, the Mamukelashvili-Vanderbilt tandem produced good results for the Lakers, which outscored the Clippers by 27 points (51-24) across the 20 minutes those two played together. Redick acknowledged their complementary skill-sets — Vanderbilt’s defensive signature and Mamukelashvili’s offensive versatility — as the driving force behind that success.

“It was good. We had Vando on Lopez. He did a great job. We showed a clip at halftime of fronting him in the post and not allowing him to get the basketball,” Redick said. “Vando’s always going to play hard. He’s always…
