The Purdue basketball program is making a deep commitment to their head coach, Matt Painter. Painter is getting a massive pay increase to stay with the Boilermakers.

“Sources: Matt Painter’s amended contract includes a salary raise to $7 million for this upcoming season, up from $5.2 million. The deal escalates by $50,000 each year. He’ll be among the country’s Top 10 coaches in pay and projects as No. 2 in the Big Ten behind Tom Izzo,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Painter has been the head coach at Purdue since 2005. He has taken the Boilermakers to a Final Four, as well as multiple other appearances in the NCAA tournament.

“Purdue is a very special place for me, and it’s an honor to continue to be the head basketball coach at my alma mater,” Painter said, per ESPN. “I’m humbled the Purdue administration continues to put their faith in me to lead this program and am excited to continue to elevate our program with class and strive to reach all of our goals on and off the court.”

Painter has done everything essentially at the school except win a national championship. While coaching at Purdue, Painter has mentored several top players who went to the NBA including Zach Edey.
