Shorthanded Sixers can’t complete comeback, suffer first loss vs. Pistons

So much for 82-0.

The Sixers dropped their first game of the season 106-93 to the Detroit Pistons Sunday night.

Tyrese Maxey found his footing in the second half, leading the Sixers with 29 points on 11-of-24 shooting. He bumped heads with John Collins late in the game and hopefully avoided any injury. LeBron James also couldn’t sustain his pushes for long enough, finishing with 18 points and five assists shooting 8-of-15 from the floor.

Joel Embiid was expectedly ruled out with plantar fasciitis management. VJ Edgecombe was ruled out later in the day with an abdominal contusion. Jabari Walker was also inactive after tweaking his knee against Milwaukee, along with Dominick Barlow who remains on the shelf. Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson were out for Detroit.

The first Sixer to record one was Dean Wade, who scooped up a blocked Brown layup and dished it to KCP for their first field goal of the game. Nick Nurse quickly subbed Adem Bona into the game to try to get some height in there.

The offense looked just as ugly early. LeBron earned his first sarcastic cheer from the Philadelphia crowd after he finally made his first three throw. James started the night 0-of-3 from the charity stripe.

Labaron Philon Jr. got early minutes again, but this time they were planned as opposed to filling in for an injury the night before. His first play…
