Pistons C Jalen Duren strains hamstring, will be re-evaluated in 2 weeks

The Detroit Pistons announced that center Jalen Duren is dealing with a right hamstring strain. The center will be re-evaluated in two weeks, according to the team.

Duren picked up the injury in the second quarter of Friday night’s win over the Miami Heat. The Detroit center is averaging 13.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game early in the 2026-2027 NBA season.

Without Duren in the lineup, Detroit could move Paul Reed from the bench to a starting spot. The Pistons could also move John Collins from power forward to center and give Ronald Holland II a start.

Detroit expects Duren to miss the next six games before re-evaluating him. In that span, the Pistons face the Philadelphia 76ers (twice), New York Knicks, Charlotte Hornets (twice), and Brooklyn Nets.

If the Detroit center is cleared right at the two-week mark, he could return on November 8 at home against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Before getting hurt against Miami, Duren played just 10 minutes. In that time, he shot 2-of-4 for just four points but grabbed six rebounds and three assists.

Reed finished with a double-double, 19 points and 11 boards, off the bench. Holland played a well-rounded game, scoring 8 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and adding 4 assists in 22 minutes. Detroit could deploy a balanced rotation, working them both in Duren’s absence.

Duren was a hot topic over the offseason because he and the Pistons couldn’t agree on a contract. While trade rumors swirled, Detroit got the deal done, signing him to a 5-year, $200 million extension that keeps him under contract through the 2030-2031 season.

Detroit will first take the floor without Duren on Sunday as the Pistons put their 2-0 record on the line against the 76ers.
