Purdue Men’s Basketball 2026-2027 Big Ten Schedule Released

With football sitting at 1-1 I know that a lot of you have already turned your attention to basketball. That’s okay with us because obviously we love basketball here at Hammer and Rails. Well, today Purdue men’s basketball fans are eating good because the Big Ten conference announced the conference schedule for all 18 teams. Purdue put theirs out in a nice beautiful image that I’ll embed below before getting to my thoughts.

With the 18 teams in a 20 game conference slate it’s just mathematically impossible for everyone to play each team twice. That leaves just a few teams that are double plays.

Purdue will play Illinois twice within a 5 week span.

Purdue will play Indiana twice within about 2.5 weeks.

Purdue will play Rutgers twice within a 4 week span.

Those are the three multiplay teams. That works out to 17 other Big Ten opponents plus three repeats for a total of 20 games. Makes sense right? So, what else stands out? You’ll notice on their graphic gold are home games and black are away games. Purdue has some very tough road games as they go to Illinois, to Rutgers (which has been a real struggle for Purdue in recent years), to Wisconsin, to Michigan, to Michigan State, and to rival Indiana. That’s a tough series of games. This is almost worst case scenario as far as away games go for the Boilermakers. It’s going to be a tough conference season as expected, but it would’ve been nice to get Michigan or Michigan State at home.
