On Wednesday, North Carolina learned its full conference schedule, including the specific game dates. North Carolina has an opportunity for a fast start in conference play, as the opening six-game stretch features a surplus of inferior opposition. During that span, the Tar Heels will face California, Boston College, Louisville, North Carolina State, Florida State, and Stanford.

Louisville is the only game North Carolina should enter as an underdog, especially since that game’s on the road. The Tar Heels have a legitimate chance of opening conference play with a 5-1 record. By the time conference play arrives, North Carolina’s rotation should be well-established. Last season, the Tar Heels struggled against the middling teams in the conference, but that shouldn’t be the case under Malone.
