Duke Basketball adds sponsor to court

When you think of Duke basketball and the history of the program, one of the things that comes to mind first is Cameron Indoor Stadium. It’s home to the Blue Devils who play their home games on Coach K Court to commemorate the legendary career of Mike Krzyzewski.

It’s an iconic arena in our sport and one that is a bucket list item for many fans. But as we step into the new age of college basketball, the traditional pieces of the game we love are going away. 

We saw the Big 12 add a Monster Energy sponsorship which will not only be featured on jerseys but courts and fields as well. It’s another revenue opportunity for college athletics and now Duke is following along, sort of. 

The program announced on Monday that they are adding an Edward Jones logo onto Coach K. Court, giving the Blue Devils a new sponsor. The partnership is with Learfield Sports, which includes UNC and Oregon, as Forbes reports:

The logo of St. Louis-based wealth management giant Edward Jones will be on the court at Cameron under a four-year sponsorship deal with Duke, the firm announced Monday. The partnership is part of Edward Jones’ broader foray into college sports, a set of deals worth $34 million over four years that was facilitated by college sports marketing firm Learfield and also includes the University of North Carolina and the University of Oregon.

It’s a little odd seeing a new logo on the court, especially with the tradition the program has. Rival North Carolina has a sponsor on their court as well which is telling of the direction that the sport is going in.

On the positive side, this opens up a revenue opportunity not only now but in the future for various things. It’s just the reality of the world we live in and if Duke didn’t move forward with it, they would be behind.

Duke is set to open up their season with some exhibition games in October and then a full regular season slate in November. The Blue Devils enter the year as one…
