Penn State Basketball Adds Central Connecticut State Guard Jay Rodgers From Transfer Portal

With all the news of Penn State losing basketball players to the transfer portal, it sure feels refreshing to write about the Nittany Lions gaining a player through the transfer portal. Earlier today, former Central Connecticut State guard Jay Rodgers announced via his social media that he will play his final year of eligibility in Happy Valley.

The Pickerington, Ohio native originally began his college career at New Orleans in 2020 before transferring to Cochise College, a JUCO program in Arizona, followed by transferring to Central Connecticut State before the start of the 2022-23 season. Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury just nine games into the 2023-24 season, which also caused him to miss the entire 2024-25 season, hence why he still has an additional year left to play.

Finally healthy again this past season, Rodgers averaged 11 points and nearly seven assists per game as the point man for CCSU, shooting 42.6% from the floor, including 36.2% from 3-point range. This was good enough to earn him a second team All-NEC selection.

Aside from being the first portal addition to the program, Rodgers is also the third offseason addition with Roko Prkačin and François Wibaut having been added last week.
