UCLA men’s basketball made it to multiple NCAA Tournament articles by USA TODAY Sports as a middle-of-the-pack team the week before the bracket will be finalized.
The Bruins have made it to USA TODAY Sports’ most recent men’s basketball bracketology and were the No. 9 seed in the East Region as of March 10. UCLA would be in the Greenville bracket and would be projected to play No. 8 Georgia in Washington, D.C. If they won, then UCLA would move on to play the winner of the No. 1 Duke and No. 16 UMBC or Bethune-Cookman.

In another article released on March 9, featuring the risers and fallers by USA TODAY Sports writer Jordan Mendoza, UCLA was listed as a riser with the No. 10 seed in the South. Here’s what Mendoza wrote about UCLA.
“After teetering on the bubble for much of conference play, UCLA has put itself in comfortable position,” Mendoza wrote. “The Bruins pretty much wiped away the win against Illinois with a loss at Minnesota, but recovered immediately with an emphatic victory against Nebraska to get themselves back on track. They then beat rival Southern California to punctuate a sixth place finish in the Big Ten. UCLA has distance itself enough away from the cutline and can plan to be playing in the tournament once again.”
In both predictions, the Bruins have earned a middling spot in the tournament, due to their inconsistency throughout the season, but they have shown the ability to compete with almost anyone. UCLA ended the season with a 21-10 overall record and has won three games against ranked opponents.
We will know where UCLA lies soon enough, but as of this week, the Bruins are ranked as the No. 6 team in the Big Ten and will play on Thursday, March 12, against the winner of the No. 11 Minnesota and No. 14 Rutgers game.
