The Hokies shot 49% from the field and made 8 of 22 from beyond the arc (36%). After shooting 65% from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s opener against Coppin State, Tech made 20 of 26 (77%) on Thursday. Another area of improvement: four turnovers. The Hokies turned it over 14 times on Tuesday. Those are areas that will make head coach Mike Young happy.
Junior guard Tyler Johnson came off the bench again, scoring 8 points and finishing with a game-high 9 rebounds. In two games, both off the bench, the 6-foot-5 junior has 21 points and 16 rebounds in two games.
Virginia Tech returns to action on Tuesday, with a trip to Sioux City, Iowa, where the Iowa Hawkeyes await.
