Valparaiso won its season opener against Western Illinois, 80-58.

This is the Beacons most difficult game in its non-conference. Currently, Valparaiso isn’t scheduled to play a team inside the top-100 in the non-conference. Purdue will be its marquee test against a power conference school. Purdue will be attempting to avoid going 0-2 on its young season as it adjusts to a team with a new, young core.

Purdue will have a five game homestand which will feature five teams outside the Kenpom top-100 currently.

Purdue will look to avoid its first 0-2 start since 1976-77.

Combine that with going 20 of 34 from inside the arc, and Valpo made up for a 4 of 16 shooting night from three.

Valpo was led by 6-8 forward, JT Pettigrew who scored 18 points and 13 points from Rajan Roberts.

Defensively, Valpo had an impressive showing holding Western Illinois to 16 of 37 from two and 4 of 14 from three while forcing 16 turnovers.

Purdue lost to Gonzaga in its season opener in part by giving up 34 free throw attempts to the Bulldogs, a number slightly inflated because of the close nature of the game late.
