Pewaukee’s Milan Momcilovic begins Kentucky tenure with a bang

Pewaukee High School alumnus Milan Momcilovic delivered an excellent first game for the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team Nov. 3, finishing with 24 points on 6-of-9 shooting from three-point range in an 85-57 win over Manhattan.

Momcilovic, who stood out over the past three seasons at Iowa State, transferred to UK with a reported NIL payout of $6 million, making him the second-highest-paid athlete in all of college sports, behind Miami quarterback Darian Mensah, and the highest-paid in college basketball this season.

The 6-foot-9 senior looks like a good investment so far. He hit eight of 12 shots and added five rebounds and an assist for a Wildcats team that’s expected to finish only upper-middle-of-the-pack in the Southeastern Conference, according to the league’s preseason poll.

Momcilovic, ironically, was part of the team that eliminated the Wildcats from the 2026 NCAA Tournament, marking the second time in three years (along with Pewaukee’s Jack Gohlke of Oakland in 2024) that a former Pewaukee athlete had knocked the college basketball blue-blood from the tournament. Iowa State went on to lose the next game, in the Sweet 16, to Tennessee.

Momcilovic shot 48.7% from three-point range last year with Iowa State, leading all qualified shooters in NCAA Division I. That was despite taking 7.5 attempts per game, ranking him among the top 50 players in the country in attempts. Brett Decker of Liberty, No. 2 on the list, shot 47.1%.
