TNT Sports hires Hubert Davis as college basketball studio, game analyst

TNT Sports has hired former North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis as a college basketball studio and game analyst, the company announced Tuesday. He will primarily cover the Big East and Big 12 conferences.

Davis previously worked in television as an analyst for ESPN from 2007-12 and was an analyst for College GameDay before returning to UNC as an assistant coach under Roy Williams. His agreement with TNT Sports is expected to be a multi-year deal, according to Sports Business Journal’s Austin Karp, and he is due to make his first in-studio appearance Nov. 5.

After working as an assistant at North Carolina, Davis then took over the program in 2021 after Williams’ retirement and took the Tar Heels to the national title game in his first season. UNC missed the NCAA Tournament the next year, though.

After a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2024, the Tar Heels lost in the first round in both 2025 and 2026. That led the school to make a change following a loss to VCU after a 19-point deficit disappeared in the second half.

As a whole, Davis amassed a 125-54 overall record as North Carolina head coach. That includes a 68-30 mark in ACC play, though UNC finished tied for fourth in each of his last two seasons in Chapel Hill before the coaching change.

Davis joins TNT Sports’ bench of college basketball analysts, which also includes former Auburn coach Bruce Pearl, former Michigan star Jalen Rose and former Kentucky star Jamal Mashburn. His first studio appearance will come alongside Tim Doyle, Dalen Cuff and Seth Davis.

Speaking with The Athletic’s Brendan Marks, Davis said he’s not ruling out a potential coaching return at some point in the future. For now, though, he saw an opportunity to stay around college basketball with one of the top media brands in the sport.
