Hubert Davis joins TNT Sports as college basketball analyst

TNT Sports announced Tuesday that it has signed Hubert Davis to a multi-year deal to serve as a studio and game analyst for its men’s college basketball coverage during the 2026-27 season. He will debut Thursday, Nov. 5, when TNT’s studio show anchors a three-game slate of Big East and Big 12 matchups on truTV and HBO Max.

The move brings Davis back into the public eye after his unceremonious March exit from Chapel Hill.

His Tar Heels let a 19-point lead slip away against VCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and lost 82-78 in overtime, completing the largest comeback in the history of that round and sending North Carolina home in the Round of 64 for the second year in a row. The school postponed the season finale of Davis’ weekly radio show as administrators deliberated over his future, and it fired him shortly afterward, ending a five-year tenure in which he went 125-54.

Davis had peaked early in that run, when his first team reached the 2022 national championship game as an 8-seed and beat Duke twice along the way, including in Mike Krzyzewski’s final game. The Tar Heels missed the tournament the following season and never recaptured that level of success, and Davis said in a statement after his dismissal that he wanted to stay and hoped to coach again soon.

“When you’re coaching a team, you’re so singularly focused on that team and the program that outside of preparing against your opponent, you just don’t really get a chance to see other programs and see what they’re doing and dive into their coaches and coaching staff and philosophies,” Davis told Sports Business Journal.

After the New York Knicks took him in the first round of the 1992 NBA Draft and he went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA, Davis spent seven years at ESPN as a college basketball analyst, including time on the network’s hoops edition of College GameDay.
