Michigan State basketball is hosting a top 10 exhibition battle from the Breslin Center tonight.

The Spartans are hosting No. 4 UConn on Tuesday night, which is the Spartans’ second exhibition game of the year. Michigan State — who is ranked No. 6 in the preseason Associated Press poll — handled Incarnate Word in their first exhibition game earlier this month.

First Half Analysis

Good thing this is an exhibition game that will not count towards the records.

Michigan State looked sloppy and simply couldn’t buy a shot from outside. There may be some nerves for this big-time home matchup that is impacting their play, but that was straight up a bad half of basketball for the Spartans.

It should be noted, though, that one of the Huskies’ top players is not playing tonight in Braylon Mullins. If he was playing, this game could be a blowout at the break.

The good news is that Tom Izzo has plenty of ammo and things to point to for improvement out of that first half. I’m hoping to see a better offensive effort from the Spartans in the second half, but again, let’s not get too worried or worked up over an exhibition first half performance.
