Celtics vs Pistons and Knicks vs 76ers Predictions: NBA Odds, Best Bets, and Picks for Oct. 20

The NBA is back baby! Happy Tip Off and opening day in the association! NBC and Peacock hooked us up with an insane three-game slate starting with Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics going to Motown for the opening game against the Detroit Pistons followed by the defending champion New York Knicks hosting the Philadelphia 76ers. I’ll be betting both those games and enjoying the nightcap of Thunder at Spurs, which was the season-opener last year and ended in a 2 OT! Let’s see what the triple-header has in store for us this season! Best of luck! Game odds are courtesy of DraftKings.

Celtics (-1.5) at Pistons: O/U 219.5

Two of the questions I have ahead of this game is what type of impact Jalen Duren will have defensively and if he’s in game shape. He was away from the team awaiting a new contract and played 35 total minutes over the final two preseason games since joining Detroit. Duncan Robinson shot 41% from three with Detroit last year, and we should expect more minutes for Daniss Jenkins who knocked down 37.4% of his triples last season. John Collins fills in for Tobias Harris and Collins shot a career-high 40.2% from deep with the Clippers. The Pistons have decent depth behind those guys with Paul Reed, Kevin Heurter, and Ronald Holland; who aren’t afraid to shoot, but it’s obvious one of the Pistons’ woes were the three-ball last year and they have attempted to address it.

Boston will of course keep chucking three-pointers. The Celtics led the preseason with 126.0 points per game and 16.8 made triples per game, plus were second with 47.0 three-point attempts per game (2nd). Boston was top five in makes (15.5) and attempts (42.1) last season, while Detroit was bottom three in makes (11.0) and attempts (30.). Without Jaylen Brown, Boston’s offense will be criticized and ridiculed every night, but their 114.9 points…
