Kristaps Porziņģis is ‘getting better and better,’ but Warriors say he will remain out indefinitely due to ‘health-related matter’

The Kristaps Porziņģis mystery continued on Wednesday when the Golden State Warriors announced that the 31-year-old Latvian frontcourt standout will remain out indefinitely due to a “health-related matter” but will be around the team.

It’s still unclear what exactly Porziņģis is dealing with, a week away from Golden State’s regular-season opener in Los Angeles against the Lakers.

Porziņģis, the 2015 No. 4 overall pick whom the Warriors acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks last season, put out a statement on social media not long after the organization released its latest update on the big man.

“Hello people, I’m working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health asap,” the one-time All-Star and NBA champion wrote. “Honestly, I’m getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I’ll be feeling great again soon.

“It has definitely been frustrating dealing with some health stuff that you can’t exactly pinpoint, on top of injuries throughout my career, so it has added up for sure, but we will get through it.

“Health is wealth. Thank you for all the support.”

In a reply to that message on X, Porziņģis also said:

“I appreciate all the internet doctors trying to diagnose and help, but I’m in the best hands. So everyone can relax now … and I don’t have hiv or aids.”

The Warriors explained that Porziņģis, who missed training camp and the team’s first five preseason games, returned to Golden State’s practice facility on Tuesday. There, he met with general manager Mike Dunleavy and Dr. Rick Celebrini, the Warriors’ vice president of player health and performance.

“The specific contents of that meeting will remain private,” the organization’s release read.

It also noted: “An update on his status, including the potential resumption of practice, playing status or timeline, will be provided when available and appropriate.”
