The Celtics are valued lower than other top NBA franchises, and here’s why

The Boston Celtics franchise is valued at $8 billion, making it the 7th-highest-valued franchise in the NBA, per Sportico’s latest analysis. That trails the Golden State Warriors ($14.5 billion), New York Knicks ($12.8 billion), Los Angeles Lakers ($12.5 billion), Los Angeles Clippers ($8.2 billion), Chicago Bulls ($8.1 billion), and Miami Heat ($8.05 billion).

Trailing the Celtics, the Brooklyn Nets ($7.45 billion), Philadelphia 76ers ($7.15 billion), Houston Rockets ($6.9 billion), and Toronto Raptors ($6.5 billion) round out the Top 10.

One major reason the Celtics are not valued higher is that they do not own TD Garden or control its in-arena operations, hospitality, and luxury suite revenue, as most teams ahead of them do. The ownership groups of the Warriors, Lakers, Clippers, Knicks, and Bulls all own their arenas.

“I think we’ve got a really good partner right now on that front and we’ve got a really good location,” Chisholm said. “So making sure that we’re all aligned on that objective, which is creating the best fan and player experience possible and make sure we don’t lose focus on what really matters, which is…
