There’s not much of a point in writing a second-year player rankings article and starting it off with Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, and VJ Edgecombe. They were fantasy studs a season ago, and they’ll be the same this year as the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 options, respectively.
My list of second-year rankings starts with the best of the rest, headlined by versatile big men ready to take a sophomore leap and throw off the cliche of a slump.

1) Collin Murray-Boyles (F/C – TOR)
CMB enjoyed a productive rookie campaign, putting together per-36-minute averages of 14 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.5 steals and 15 blocked shots. He appeared in 57 games and started 22 of them. The highlight of his first NBA season was a 17/15/3/3/3 line in an OT victory over the Sixers on January 11.
Murray-Boyles will get to play PF and C this season, and there will be times where he plays alongside Jakob Poeltl when the Raptors need a jumbo frontcourt lineup. The athletic big man can do a bit of everything in the boxscore, and Toronto’s frontcourt depth behind Poeltl is thin. CMB is a strong, late-round pick in fantasy drafts, though his hype train is gaining more and more steam with each passing day.

2) Derik Queen (F/C – NOP)
Queen saw meaningful run right out of the gate, averaging 25 minutes across 81 games as a rookie. The big man averaged 11.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.9 blocks and 0.3 triples. His versatility as a playmaker was on full display with two triple-doubles, including the first ever 30-point triple-double by a rookie center in league history in a December 8 loss to the Spurs.
He started 48 games, averaging an impressive 13.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocked shots running with the first unit. Queen can play the four or the five, and if Zion Williamson is healthy,…
