St. John’s Basketball Still Waiting on Keyshawn Hall Decision

The St. John’s Red Storm is only a few weeks away from taking the court for the first time in the 2026-27 men’s college basketball season, and they still don’t know who will be in the lineup for the season.

One player still in limbo is Keyshawn Hall. On Tuesday, the injunction hearing for the forward was supposed to be held at the Queens Supreme Court, but it has been delayed another week until Oct. 13.

Hall moved his hearing and sued the NCAA after the hearing in Ohio was denied and remains denied. He was ineligible based on that ruling, but received a temporary restraining order to become eligible for the time being.

The talented forward is looking to gain eligibility based on the new 5-in-5 rules that have been put into place. Like so many other players in the Class of 2022, he is looking to gain a fifth year of eligibility based on the new rules in place.

While there is a lot of information to pour over in the court documents, Hall’s case does seem pretty straightforward compared to others. He agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with the Miami Heat and participated in Summer League with them, but he never signed that deal.

Any professional agreements like that have been the biggest hurdle to players gaining eligibility, but it isn’t something that applies to Hall. He didn’t declare for the 2026 NBA Draft either; he was a senior whose eligibility was originally exhausted, so he is in a similar boat to someone such as Tamin Lipsey, who was granted eligibility in an Indiana court along with nearly 100 athletes across different disciplines.
