Council announced his decision to return to Lawrence after considering his options, giving Bill Self an experienced guard who already knows the system.

And this isn’t simply another depth piece.

Council was one of Kansas’ most productive players last season.

Melvin Council Jr. gives Kansas proven production

Council averaged 12.7 points per game for Kansas during the 2025-26 season. He finished with 445 points while earning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, All-Big 12 honorable mention and a spot on the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. Council also brings extensive college experience.

The 6-foot-4 guard has played at Wagner, Monroe College, St. Bonaventure and Kansas.
