Jalen Duren, Pistons end contentious contract stalemate, agree to 5-year, $200 million extension

The lingering contract stalemate between Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons has reached its conclusion.

Duren and the Pistons have agreed to a five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed extension to his rookie contract, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday.

He’d previously never averaged more than 13.8 points per game in a single season. His improved play was key to Detroit’s ascent to the best record in the Eastern Conference at 60-22.

But Duren’s production cratered in the playoffs. In 14 games, he averaged 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 51.4% from the field. The Pistons needed seven games to get past the Magic in the first round as the top seed and lost in the second round to the rival Cavaliers.
