Can you feel it in the air? It’s Knicks basketball scent.
New York keeps working through the early days of training camp, gearing up for a preseason matchup with the 76ers on Oct. 5.
Meanwhile, here’s the latest we’ve heard about the Knickerbockers inside the Tarrytown facilities and elsewhere.
On Andre Drummond being quicker and more explosive than expected:

“He’s a little quicker and more explosive.”
On Andre Drummond replacing Mitchell Robinson by being himself:
“We’re not expecting Andre to come in and be Mitch or impact the game in a lot of different ways that Mitch did. Just be yourself, but everyone else has to step up and box-out a little harder. All those things will make us a top-level team.”
On Drummond’s veteran experience, instincts and mobility:
“He’s a veteran. He’s been there, done that with a few different teams, and he’s a big body, he’s got great feet. Seems like his instincts are pretty good on both ends of the floor. His feet are quicker than what you could imagine. He’s really light on his feet, which is a good thing.”

On the Knicks still discussing a potential White House visit:
“No, that’s still something that our guys, the organization, is internally discussing. Whatever we decide to do we’ll all do together.”
On his expectations for the Knicks over the 82-game regular season:
“We’re not playing at that level for 82 games. You know, we played at a pretty high level, and … that’s not going to happen over 82 games. You know, for me, the 82-game season is about trying to find your way.”
On expanding the Knicks’ offense around Karl-Anthony Towns and experimenting with different lineups:

“Obviously playing with KAT at the elbow a little bit more than what we did [in the regular season last year]. Being with this group for a year now, you get a better feel of what players can do what. Like I didn’t know if OG could be as effective as he was in the pick-and-roll game. Same with Mikal. So to try to continue to find ways to get those guys involved at the top of the floor is something that we’ll take a look at.
