Where does Memphis’ non-conference opponents rank in Bart Torvik’s preseason rankings

Memphis will play its first exhibition game of the season in less than a month, and it will start the season on November 2. With the season right around the corner, people are starting to post predictions and preseason rankings for the upcoming college basketball season.

The Bart Trovik T-Rank is an analytical ranking that uses offensive and defensive efficiency. It is very similar to how KenPom ranks teams.

Torvik has posted its T-Rank for the upcoming season, and it has Penny Hardaway’s team at No. 110 in the country and No. 5 in the American Conference.

The Tigers added a ton of new pieces over the offseason, and it’s hard to figure what the group will look like, especially playing against a tough non-conference slate. Here’s a look at where Torvik ranks Memphis’ 13 current known non-conference opponents.

@ Mississippi State (Exhibition)

Torvik ranking: #62

Memphis will play Mississippi State in an exhibition game in late October, and it will give the Tigers an opportunity to see SEC competition before playing a tough non-conference schedule. Hardaway’s team could also see the Bulldogs during the Battle 4 Atlantis in October.

@ Arkansas (Exhibition)

Torvik ranking: #21

A few days after their exhibition in Starkville, the Tigers will travel to Fayetteville for their final exhibition game against Arkansas. The Razorbacks finished with the top recruiting class in the country in 2026, and they’ll look to build off last year’s sweet 16 appearance.

Iowa State

Torvik ranking: #19

Memphis will start the season in South Dakota for a neutral site game against Iowa State. The Cyclones are a preseason top 20 team, and on Monday, they announced guard Tamin Lipsey, who averaged 13.5 points and 5.1 assists last year, will be returning to Ames after he was granted an injunction by a judge in Indiana.
