Bronny James says he is interested in seeing how staff, teammates treat him without LeBron around

Bronny James was interviewed at Los Angeles Lakers Media Day on Monday, his second media appearance since his father left the team in free agency this past summer.

James was asked about his mindset as he heads into his first NBA season in which he won’t be teammates with his father.

“It’s something different for sure. I’m excited for the experience, to experience something different, him not being here.

To see how the staff treats me without him being there, all my teammates, and stuff like that. I’m excited for it, and excited for the season.”

James’ career began unlike that of any other player. He was heavily scrutinized from the second the Lakers drafted him with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. On opening night of the 2024-25 season, he and LeBron became the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history.

After that, the younger James split time between the G League and the Lakers’ main roster over the last two seasons.

He has played in 69 games so far in his career and has averaged 2.7 points, 1.1 assists and 8.1 minutes per game. Last season, James played in 42 games and averaged 2.9 points, 0.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 8.9 minutes per game.

James has fared better in the G League. Over two seasons, he has played in 25 games, averaging 18.4 points, 4 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 30 minutes per game while shooting 49.6% from the field and 41.3% from beyond the arc.

According to StatMuse, Bronny has played in 21 career NBA games without LeBron. In those games, he is averaging 3.2 points, 1 rebound and 1.8 assists.

Bronny will get the official chance to take the court without being teammates with his father on Oct. 21 at home against the Golden State Warriors.

The father-son duo could make more history. Los Angeles and Philadelphia face each other for the first time, conveniently on Christmas Day.
