Illinois basketball kicks off fall practices

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — It’s starting to get a little bit cooler outside, pumpkin spice is everywhere you look and the Illini are back at Ubben Basketball Complex for the start of fall practice.

The Illini men’s basketball team posted a few pictures from their first day in the gym on social media, and there are a few things that stood out.

DAVID MIRKOVIC’S INJURY STATUS:

If you look at the team huddle picture, you’ll see Illini forward David Mirkovic holding a basketball, seemingly without any braces or anything like that on his left foot.

While there’s been no statement or update from the team on Mirkovic’s injury status, this certainly looks like a good sign for the timebeing.

He underwent surgery on his foot in early August after getting hurt during summer workouts, and Illinois never designated an official timetable for his return.

NEW FINAL FOUR BANNER AT UBBEN:

Looks like there’s some new decor hanging on the walls at the Illini’s practice facility.

A banner celebrating the Illini making it to the 2026 Final Four is now up, joining two similar ones from 1989 and 2005.

In 2027, the Final Four will be in Detroit during the weekend of April 3-5.

ZVONIMIR IVISIC IS OFFICIALLY BACK:

In early September, the Illini stated that center Zvonimir Ivisic wasn’t practicing due to a hand injury.

Ivisic took to his Instagram last week to share a photo of himself getting some work in with a wrap covering his hand.

Today was the first time that the team itself pointed to Ivisic being back in action, as he’s airborne in one of the pictures, looking to protect the rim.
