How Has the College Basketball World Reacted to Recent Syracuse Signing?

The final weekend of September could be remembered as a legendary one for Syracuse Orange basketball fans. As our own Brady Farkas covered earlier this week, Syracuse gained a commitment from a top prospect in the Class of 2027.

Moussa Kamissoko, listed as Top-10 prospect by multiple national scouting websites, announced he would signing with Syracuse. Kamissoko joins players like Carmelo Anthony, Donte Greene, Donnie Freeman and Sadiq White as five star players who have signed with Syracuse over the past 20 years.

Kamissoko’s announcement not only drew reactions from Syracuse fans, but also national college basketball personalities from around the country.

Sports Illustrated college basketball writer Kevin Sweeney said this about the signing:

“Big deal for Syracuse. Kamissoko’s ceiling is enormous. An early statement from Gerry McNamara and company.”

CBS Sports’ Adam Finkelstein said this in regards to the signing via X”:

“Moussa Kamissoko might be more important for Syracuse than he would have been for any other program in the country.”

College basketball writer Brandon Ramsey said via X:

“This is an awesome get for Coach McNamara.

Moussa Kamissoko has some of the most impressive athletic and physical tools of any prospect in the Class of 2027.

He has a chance to be a star!”

Orange fans will now have to wait over 400 days before they get a chance to see Kamissoko wear a Syracuse jersey and compete as a member of the program. Kamissoko’s commitment to Syracuse could potentially serve as a sign for other top prospects to join the Orange under McNamara. The 2027-28 roster will likely be filled with transfers from other program, along with freshmen talents like Kamissoko.

The commitment can not only help land future prospects to Central New York, but can also help Syracuse become an NCAA Tournament qualifying team. The 2026-27 Orange are hoping to break a school record of five consecutive seasons of not qualifying for the NCAA tournament.
