Stephen Curry reportedly agrees to stay in Golden State on 2-year, $116 million extension

Stephen Curry has agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania — a re-up in line to keep the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and future Hall of Famer with the team that drafted him through his 20th professional season.

The deal reportedly includes a player option in the 2028-29 season.

Curry could add a maximum of two years to his existing contract due to the “over-38 rule” in the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA’s teams and players union. Tacking two more years at 35% of the projected salary cap line — the maximum wage he’s eligible to command as a player with 10 or more years of NBA service time — onto the one-year, $62.6 million extension he signed back in 2024 will bring the total value of Steph’s current contract to $178.6 million through the end of the 2028-29 campaign. (Add that to the new 10-year, $400 million endorsement deal with Li-Ning, and it’s been an awfully lucrative summer for your man Steph.)

That would be Curry’s 20th season as a Warrior. Only 12 players in NBA history have played 20 or more seasons. Only three — Dirk Nowitzki, Kobe Bryant and Udonis Haslem — have spent the entire span with one franchise.

Across nearly two decades in the Bay, Curry has effectively resurrected the Warriors, restoring the once-proud organization of Wilt and Rick Barry to the consistent contention that preceded the largely fallow ’80s, ’90s and Aughts.
