Syracuse men’s basketball: Five-star Moussa Kamissoko commits to Syracuse

Gerry McNamara made his first big recruiting splash on Friday, landing five-star forward Moussa Kamissoko. This marks the second five-star the Orange have landed in the past decade, with Donnie Freeman being the other in 2023.

Kamissoko, hailing from the Bronx, has spent his last two years with Long Island Lutheran, where he was teammates with current Orange guard Kiyan Anthony. He recently announced he is transferring to Spire Academy in Ohio for his upcoming senior season, one of the top schools in the nation for basketball. He is ranked as the consensus top recruit from New York, and as highly as #7 in the 2027 class overall by Rivals.

Syracuse beat out other high-end schools like Florida State, Illinois, Virginia and Providence to land the 6’8″ forward. Kamissoko had high praise for Gerry McNamara and what he brought to the table, saying in an espn.com article, “He’s a players’ coach, and that is what I was looking for. You can tell the guys like playing for him. The practice was detailed, with great vibes. Coach has a great development plan for me, and they showed that Cuse has been good when they have wings like me.”

He boasts an impressive 6’11” wingspan, along with an efficient scoring rate inside the paint and at the rim. Defensively, he is able to use his length in many different schemes to be a major contributor for any college program. Kamissoko also told ESPN, “I just want to make sure I’m ready to contribute to winning as soon as I step foot on campus and help compete for a national championship.”

Kamissoko is now the second commit in the 2027 high school recruiting class for the Orange, joining three-star Jack Donohue. The future looks bright for the Cuse, and it is just getting started.
