Texas Tech Begins 2027 Recruiting Class with 4-Star PG Commit

LUBBOCK, Texas — As Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech men’s basketball team begins practices soon ahead of the 2026-27 season, the program has began the next recruiting class with a major initial commitment.

Four-star point guard Aaron Britt Jr. from Villages Charter School (Jacksonville, FL) has pledged to the Red Raiders.

Britt is ranked as the No. 52 recruit in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports, and just finished an official visit to Lubbock this past weekend.

The 6-footer chose Texas Tech over Cincinnati, Michigan State, Dayton, Florida State, California and others.

“Britt is a true point guard who can blend being consistently able to create for others with his own scoring tools,” said 247Sports scouting director Adam Finkelstein. “Whatever he may lack in sheer size, he compensates for with ball skills, feel for the game, and a real charisma and presence about the way he carries himself on the court. He’s confident, has clear leadership ability, and seems to be all about ball.”

This most recent cycle, McCasland recruited three true freshmen to the team: 4-star combo guard DaKari Spear from Dallas, 3-star shooting guard Amari Barrett out of Oklahoma City and state champion from Fort Worth, Trey Hall. International recruit Bassala Bagayoko also joins the program as a freshman under the new five-for-five eligibility rules.

Pending several eligibility battles, the Red Raiders are set to have one of the oldest rosters in college basketball next season.

Among the five transfer signings, three are seeking a fifth year of eligibility: Jamichael Stillwell, Darrion Williams and Donovan Atwell.

Williams is aiming to return to the Red Raiders after spending two seasons in Lubbock and playing last year at NC State. Atwell hopes to return to the program after a phenomenal, sharp-shooting debut season at Texas Tech last season.
