Iconic Wisconsin basketball team recognized as one of Big Ten’s best

The Wisconsin Badgers are prepping for their 12th season under head coach Greg Gard. During Gard’s first 11 years, the Badgers have totaled a 237-128 record, with eight NCAA Tournament appearances. But it’s easy to forget that just a year before Gard arrived, the Badgers had compiled one of the 2010s most exciting teams in the 2014-15 squad that reached the national title game against the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils before falling in a heartbreaking 68-63 loss. Leading that team, of course, was the exciting frontcourt duo of Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker. Kaminsky averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 2.6 assists, winning the Wooden Award. Dekker, meanwhile, notched 13.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. That team was recently nominated in Andy Katz’s best Big Ten men’s basketball list since the 1999-2000 season.

Overall, they finished with a 36-4 record that saw the Badgers lift the Big Ten regular-season and conference tournament championships. While the Badgers ultimately fell at the last hurdle, there is no doubt that Bo Ryan’s final full season was one of the most impressive of the century.
