Fantasy Basketball: 2026-27 NBA Offseason Review

The NBA offseason rewrote the fantasy basketball landscape. LeBron James and Jaylen Brown are in Philadelphia, Giannis Antetokounmpo is in Miami, LaMelo Ball is running the show in Minnesota, and Luka Dončić has the Lakers to himself. And that’s not even mentioning Kawhi Leonard’s return to Toronto after some eye-opening discoveries.

Add a rookie class headlined by AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer, Darryn Peterson and Caleb Wilson, and 2026-27 draft boards look drastically different than last season. Usage rates are shifting, depth charts are wide open, and a few overlooked names are in line for career years.

Here’s a look at the summer’s biggest headlines and what each one means for your fantasy roster.

The 76ers looked like they were stuck between two eras. There was the older duo of Joel Embiid and Paul George, who soaked up a lot of the cap while missing many games because of injury. Then there was their young guard duo of Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe that was the future of the franchise. The problem was, those four players leading the team probably put them somewhere in the second tier of Eastern Conference contenders, if that.

Being stuck in the middle in the NBA usually isn’t a good thing, so the 76ers decided to push their chips into the center of the table. They were able to find a taker in George, sending him to the Celtics. Amazingly, they landed Jaylen Brown in the deal. With Brown in the fold, LeBron James then decided to take his talents to Philadelphia, making the 76ers one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. They also quietly signed Anfernee Simons, adding scoring punch to their second unit.

The 76ers might have the best starting five in the NBA when everyone is healthy. Asking them all to stay healthy is a long shot, though. Embiid hasn’t played at least 40 games in a season since 2022-23. James will turn 42 in December, and with the team having championship aspirations, the goal is to keep him healthy for the playoffs, not push him to play 70-plus games during the regular…
