Arkansas Razorbacks head coach John Calipari has once again put together one of the NCAA’s youngest, yet talented, rosters. Arkansas basketball enters the 2026–27 season with a highly touted freshman class that could play a major role right away. The Razorbacks have plenty of talent, but SEC competition demands more than potential. With several young players expected to take on significant roles, Arkansas will have to prove its youth can handle the challenges of conference play. The Razorbacks have a high ceiling, but how quickly their young core develops could determine whether they can emerge as a legitimate SEC contender.
Calipari enters this season with another outstanding and talented freshman class. These freshmen players have a chance to make an immediate impact for the Razorbacks. Leading the way is the second-ranked recruit in the country, Jordan Smith Jr.

The six-foot-two guard is best when he uses his strength to get into the paint, where he excels at finishing through contact. The strength Smith possesses gives him a leg up on other players in the SEC.

Smith utilizes his shifty handle and speed to create his own mid-range shots. He also has an effective spin move that enables him to get scoring opportunities in the mid-range and inside. Many NBA scouts look for prospects who can get their own shots, which is something Smith does well.
Smith is also a capable playmaker who is able to read the floor extremely well when being pressured on the ball. He is able to make unselfish reads.
