Much of the Georgetown Hoyas’ hopes for the 2026-27 season hinge on the availability of Jaland Lowe, the program’s main offseason acquisition via the transfer portal. The former Kentucky standout suffered a shoulder injury last year, cutting his junior season short. But according to Georgetown head coach Ed Cooley, Laland has been cleared for all basketball related activities, as per John Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Georgetown received a commitment from Jaland Lowe via the transfer portal shortly after the end of the 2025-26 season. He joins an incoming group of six new players out of the portal including guards Elmarko Jackson and Vyctorius Miller, forwards Josiah Parker and NJ Benson and center Chol Machot.

Lowe was limited to only nine games last season, including two starts, at a little over 18 minutes per game during his lone season with Kentucky. He averaged 8.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists with splits of 35.8 percent shooting from the field, 20.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 70.4 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

He began his college basketball career at Pittsburgh where he played two seasons before transferring to Kentucky. He had been coming off a breakout sophomore year with the Panthers in which he averaged 16.8 points and 5.5 assists in 2024-25.

While Lowe is entering his fourth year of college basketball, he could potentially gain another year of eligibility should he apply for this past season to count as a redshirt year.

The Hoyas are hoping to return to the NCAA Tournament this upcoming year after five consecutive seasons of missing out. This will be Cooley’s fourth season at the helm as head coach.
