Michigan State Emerges as Favorite for Top-25 Recruit: Who Is It?

Michigan State just wrapped up a tradition unlike any other.

Grind Week.

Throughout the week, the Spartans welcomed a litany of recruits to East Lansing as alumni, current players and coaches all worked together to prepare the team for the upcoming season.

For head coach Tom Izzo, it is also an opportunity to give some of his top recruiting targets a firsthand look at what it means to be a Spartan.

Izzo has become known for giving recruits the full experience during their visits. From posing in the iconic green and white jerseys to spending time with current players and alumni, recruits get an inside look at the culture Izzo has built at Michigan State.

And it seems to work.

Last year’s Grind Week helped Michigan State land multiple commitments, including recruits who helped Izzo’s 2026 class climb into the top 10 nationally.

This year’s Grind Week appears to have followed a similar path.

According to Joe Tipton, one of the top recruits in the 2027 class is nearing a decision, and Michigan State has emerged as the favorite.

“A Top-25 overall recruit is entering decision mode, and Michigan State has emerged as the favorite.”

So, who could it be?

Izzo has been involved with several players ranked inside the nation’s top 25, but some have already narrowed their recruitment to schools that don’t include Michigan State, such as Asa Montgomery.

There is, however, one player in particular who appears to have a significant connection to the Spartans.

Antonio Pemberton.

Per Justin Thind, who covers Michigan State extensively, the Spartans made a major impression on Pemberton during his Grind Week visit.

“Can confirm that #MichiganState made a major impression on 2027 five-star guard Antonio Pemberton during his Grind Week visit.”

Pemberton is considered a five-star recruit by the 247Sports Composite, which combines the ratings from multiple major recruiting services.

The Composite currently gives Pemberton a 0.9918 rating, making him the No. 23 overall player…
