BYU basketball to face Arizona on ESPN’s Big Monday

BYU and Arizona will battle on ESPN’s Big Monday for a second straight college basketball season, per an announcement by the Big 12 conference on Monday.

The Feb. 22 matchup against the Wildcats at the Marriott Center is one of five Big Monday matchups for the Big 12 during the 2026-27 season. Tip is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. Here’s a look at the five contests for the Worldwide Leader in Sports.

Mon, Feb. 1

Kansas at Houston on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET

Mon, Feb. 8

TCU at Arizona on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. ET

Mon., Feb. 15

Houston at Texas Tech on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET

Mon, Feb. 22

Arizona at BYU on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET

Mon., March 1

Iowa State at Kansas on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET

This will mark the 31st college basketball season with the Big 12 being showcased on Big Monday as part of a long-standing arrangement with ESPN. Some of the nation’s top matchups have been featured on the program. Arizona, Houston and Kansas are being showcased twice during the upcoming season.

As for BYU, Kevin Young returns for a third season after leading the Cougars to 23 wins last season. The team is looking to make another appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and the third under Young. He’s currently 49-22 overall and 23-15 in conference play.

In 2025-26, BYU had a stacked roster with No. 1 overall NBA Draft pick AJ Dybantsa, but a late-season injury to Richie Saunders wiped out one of the Cougars top contributors. They lost to Texas in the first round of the 2026 NCAA tournament. A step back for Young and his staff after advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2005.

One of the biggest offseason transactions for BYU was being able to retain Rob Wright III. The outstanding floor general will be among the nation’s top point guards. Wright returns for his second season in Provo after briefly entering the transfer portal. The All-Big 12 guard averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.
