Another Piece of UConn Big East Schedule Comes into Focus

On Thursday, CBS Sports College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein reported when the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team will take on St. John’s this season: A late January matchup at Madison Square Garden and an early March matchup in Connecticut.

On Saturday, Rothstein struck again, saying that UConn will visit Big East rival Villanova on Feb. 14, 2027.

If that strikes you as an interesting date, it is: It is both Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl Sunday. And while that’s an important date on the calendar, it likely won’t lead to great television ratings and it could impact attendance as well, which would be a disappointment for the conference as a whole.

Regardless of how many people are there, or how many people watch, it’s one of the biggest league games on the Huskies schedule.

The Wildcats aren’t winning national championships like they did under Jay Wright, but they are still a very formidable opponent. They went 24-9 a season ago, and that included a 15-5 league record.

Villanova also earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament, getting beaten by Utah State in the Round of 64. This followed a difficult showing in the Big East Tournament, where they were upended by Georgetown in the tournament opener.

The Huskies won the late January meeting in Connecticut 75-67 in overtime before taking the late February matchup in Philadelphia 73-63.

UConn went onto finish second to St. John’s in the regular season and also finished as the runner-up in the league tournament.

Of course, the Huskies earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced all the way to the national title game before losing to Michigan.
