Before we get into the news, we’d like to extend our prayers and well wishes to Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell, who announced he is battling cancer in a letter posted to social media yesterday.

Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide landed their first commitment of the 2027 high school recruiting season on Wednesday afternoon.

Top-30 overall prospect Chase Lumpkin, a 6-foot-5 guard from McEachern High School in Georgia, announced he will be heading to Tuscaloosa to play for Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide.

Lumpkin ultimately chose Alabama over a group of finalists that also included Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan and USC.

During his EYBL season with Jet Academy this summer, he averaged 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game, showing the all-around production that has helped push him to near five-star status in the rankings.

Lumpkin is a long, versatile guard who has the physical tools to impact the game on both ends of the floor. His length stands out immediately, but it’s his versatility and upside that make him such an intriguing addition to Alabama’s program.

Lumpkin has the frame and athletic profile to defend multiple positions, disrupt passing lanes and make an impact on the game without needing the ball in his hands on every possession. Offensively, his ability to play both on and off the ball gives Oats flexibility in how he can be used throughout his freshman season.
