Kentucky Basketball is set to host in-state standout Mason Grivna for a visit

Kentucky basketball is jumping in early on an in-state prospect who is only a sophomore. Mark Pope and the Wildcats’ coaching staff have set up an unofficial visit with 2029 center Mason Grivna for Saturday, Sept. 12, according to Travis Branham of 247Sports.

The weekend should be a fun one in Lexington, as Kentucky will host Alabama in football, and there is expected to be plenty of high school talent on campus across both football and basketball.

Grivna, who is not currently ranked because it is still very early in the 2029 recruiting cycle, is from Louisville and attends Ballard High School. The 6-foot-11, 220-pound center has already received at least 15 offers, including Arizona State, Auburn, Indiana, and Louisville.

Kentucky has not yet offered Grivna, but that could change following his visit to Lexington, especially considering the number of high-major programs that have already extended offers to him. Grivna has several other visits scheduled, including Purdue on Sept. 26, South Carolina on Oct. 3, Louisville on Oct. 9, Indiana on Oct. 17, and Ohio State on Nov. 28, all according to Branham.

While it is still extremely early in Grivna’s recruitment, it is encouraging to see Kentucky getting involved this early with an in-state prospect. The Wildcats will have an opportunity to build a relationship with Grivna during his visit, and it will be worth watching to see whether Kentucky eventually extends an offer and whether both sides continue to show interest as his recruitment develops.
