When Stephen Curry signs another contract with the Warriors, as he surely intends to, the significance of that moment will extend far beyond continuing his journey with the Bay Area’s NBA team.

Whether that signature becomes official this month or in October or in February 2027, it’ll reaffirm Curry’s commitment to the Bay Area, to people he’ll never know and to causes local and global for which he has no mandatory obligation.

Curry’s multigenerational wealth – he has earned nearly $500 million in basketball salary alone – has allowed him and his wife, Ayesha, to build programs that bless people with food, books, toiletries, computers, playgrounds and more. “It’s such a grounding aspect of my life because it allows me to make sense of all this in a way that wouldn’t necessarily otherwise could,” Curry said of his faith Sunday at the University of San Francisco. “I don’t understand why I’m on the stage. I love to play basketball. I was blessed with a gift from an early age, and I love to do it. And the doors that have been opened, there has to be some reason, some outcome that is beyond my imagination. I’m walking in that purpose.

“And that’s been a huge part of being able to connect with people, to see God in each one of us. I think the idea of being passionate about who you are, what makes you different, and leaning into that is . . . you’ve got to live an authentic life….
