College Basketball Analyst Says National Championships Are Coming For Jon Scheyer

The Duke Blue Devils are still a few months away from opening up the college basketball season. It’s been a long wait for the program, coming off one of the more disappointing losses in recent memory.

Duke blew a 19-point lead to UConn in the Elite Eight and was denied a return trip to the Final Four. It was one of the tougher losses of the Jon Scheyer era so far. And sadly, his tough losses get talked about a lot.

While Duke fell short again, one college basketball analyst believes that the national championships are coming. Terrence Oglesby joined the TDD Podcast to talk about his connection to Duke, his playing career, and current head coach Jon Scheyer. 

He believes the championships are coming down the line for Scheyer. 

“The consistency of the program has improved under his watch,” Oglesby said. “There are no down years.”

“The national championships, are they there yet? No, they’re not,” Oglesby said. “But they’re on their way. I don’t exactly know when it’s going to be. It could be this year.”

That’s some high praise and respect.

While Scheyer has had some pretty brutal losses, including back-to-back seasons in the NCAA Tournament, there’s been a lot of good. The Blue Devils have improved under Scheyer and haven’t fallen off yet since his arrival.

To win the NCAA Tournament is a tough feat as you have to win six games in a row, so it’s not all on Scheyer as Oglesby said.

“To win six games in a row in March and early April, there’s going to be a time where the ball just has to bounce your way,” he said.

Duke will enter this season with high expectations once again. They have the No. 1 overall recruiting class, a good transfer class and bring back some important pieces.

They will be the favorite in the Atlantic Coast Conference and they should be among the favorites in all of college basketball. Duke will be tested early and often as well, facing a tough non-conference schedule. 

Duke will something to prove once again this season…
