Report: Nets to push chips to middle of the table at some point

The Brooklyn Nets came into the 2026 NBA offseason with the goal of improving the roster as much as possible following a 2025-26 campaign in which they finished with a 20-62 record. Brooklyn made some interesting moves this summer, including trading for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle, but there is some belief that the Nets could be making bigger moves in the near future.

“As one NBA decision maker recently told me, Nets are still gathering assets and ‘at some point, they’ll push all their chips to the middle of the table.’ That process will require resolve for ownership and management and patience for fans,” NetsDaily wrote on X on Wednesday. Some Nets fans have understandably been wondering when Brooklyn will use most of their assets to turn the team into a contender.

Since the 2022-23 season when the Nets traded away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Nets have been accumulating assets with the hope of building through the draft and potentially acquiring star-level players at the same time. Over the past few years, Brooklyn has done various moves such as trading for forward Michael Porter Jr. and now Randle this offseason.

As of this writing, the Nets have at least 12 first-round picks between 2027 and 2033, giving them the kind of ammunition necessary to trade for difference-making players as they come available. If the Nets are still gathering assets until they “push all their chips to the middle of the table” at some point in the near future, it seems like general manager Sean Marks is still being patient until the right opportunity presents itself.

More to the point, the Nets are maintaining salary cap flexibility so that they could be able to sign big-name free-agents if they’re looking for a new team to continue their career with.
