While the NBA’s regular season hasn’t gotten underway, there are still opportunities for players around the association to work on their skills against similar levels of talent, which includes the FIBA World Cup and its qualifying stages. The global spectacle allows players from the league to suit up for their nations and try to prevail on the court.

Thursday night saw an impressive offensive display from one of the league’s premier sharpshooters: Buddy Hield.

Hield’s stellar outing

Hield, who is a member of the Atlanta Hawks, has been a key part of the Bahamas’ qualifying path so far, as he’s one of the more veteran figures on the Caribbean nation’s team. His leadership showed on Tuesday night, when the Bahamas took on Uruguay in their recent round of qualifying fixtures, lighting up the South American team with 28 points, with six of those shots landing from beyond the arc.

This effort from the 33-year-old would help out his national team come out on top, 103-94, bringing their record to 3-4.

The Bahamian national team was in search of some additional offensive firepower given that they were without Eric Gordon and VJ Edgecombe, who weren’t named to the roster for the match. While Edgecombe is currently a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, Gordon and Hield were previous members of the Eastern Conference side.

Hield was a Sixer for a lone season in which he put up 12.2 points per game, converting on 38.9 percent of his shots from downtown, and proving to be quite the offensive spark plug off of the bench for Nick Nurse.

The highlight of his time in the City of Brotherly Love is arguably his 20-point outing against the New York Knicks in what would be the elimination game of the first round, trailing only Joel Embiid in the scoring log that night.
