Aliyah Boston knows Caitlin Clark well enough to understand which words are unlikely to defuse a tense situation. The Indiana Fever center reacted to Paige Bueckers telling Clark to calm down during a recent game between Indiana and the Dallas Wings. Boston discussed the exchange with WNBA legend Candace Parker during the latest episode of their “Post Moves” podcast.

Boston could not imagine that message producing the desired result.

“No, it doesn’t,” Boston said when Parker asked whether telling someone to calm down has ever worked. “Cause now I’m even more mad cause don’t tell me to calm down. Why would you tell me to calm down?”

It was a lighthearted response to one of the most entertaining moments from the latest meeting between two of the WNBA’s most prominent guards.

Paige Bueckers’ message had predictable effect on Caitlin Clark

The exchange occurred late in the second quarter of Dallas’ 91-85 victory over Indiana on Aug. 20. Bueckers grabbed Clark’s arm while attempting to stop her from creating an advantage. No foul was initially called, and Bueckers made contact with Clark again before an official finally blew the whistle.

Clark immediately began arguing her case. As she and Bueckers stood near the official, the Wings guard appeared to tell Clark to calm down.

That advice went about as well as Boston would have expected. Clark continued voicing her frustration, although the interaction never developed into anything more serious. Both guards quickly moved forward and remained focused on a competitive game with major playoff implications.

Neither former No. 1 overall pick enjoyed her best performance.

Clark finished with 10 points and nine assists while shooting 4-of-15 from the field. Bueckers recorded 13 points, eight assists and six rebounds in the Wings’ victory….
